FAQs
All about our edible flowers
They certainly are! We grow varieties specifically selected for culinary use, so they're suitable for decorating and adding colour to food and drinks.
All our petals like Cornflowers, Calendula, Marigold and Dahlias are what we say have good edibility, they can be used on all culinary creations and have a good bite.
Our Amaranth Pom Poms are what we call a food safe decorative flower. Their slightly spiky texture means they are not suitable for consumption but they are best used a cake decoration that is taken off before eating.
Not all flowers are edible though, so please don't assume that flowers bought from a florist or garden center are safe to eat, these are grown with chemicals designed to keep them fresh for a long time and are incredibly harmful to consume. Please always use reputable edible flower suppliers and organic where possible to ensure no chemicals have been used on what is a food item.
Yes! Aweside Farm is certified organic by the Soil Association and our license number is 29262.
We are the only certified organic supplier of dried edible flowers in the UK.
We grow our flowers and herbs here on our regenerative farm in East Sussex, and our certified organic products are grown and processed in accordance with the applicable organic standards.
All sorts of things!
They're lovely for decorating cakes, cupcakes, biscuits, chocolates, desserts and drinks. You can also use them to add a pop of colour to savoury dishes.
You can have a look at our Recipes & Inspiration to get some ideas on how best to use our products.
Our dried petals are especially good when you want beautiful colour without introducing extra moisture.
Edible flowers are food ingredients, and individual sensitivities or allergic reactions can occur.
If you have a known allergy to a particular plant or botanical family, please check the product ingredients carefully before using them.
If you're unsure whether a flower is suitable for you, seek appropriate advice before consuming it.
We do not grow any of the 14 allergens on the farm nor are they stored or used in our production space.
About our dried flowers, herbs & powders
Our dried edible flowers have a labelled shelf life of 24 months from the date of production and when stored correctly.
For the best colour and quality, keep them in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and make sure the lid is properly closed after use.
Always follow the best-before date on your packaging.
All products come with a batch label and a best before date but if stored correctly, like any dried kitchen ingredient, they will last a long time.
Keep them somewhere cool, dry and out of direct sunlight.
Moisture and humidity are the enemies of beautifully dried petals, so avoid storing them next to the kettle, hob or anywhere particularly steamy.
And remember to pop the lid back on after you've finished!
Our mixed blends combine different edible flower petals to create distinctive colour palettes, from bright and playful to soft and subtle.
Our single varieties let you choose a particular flower or colour for a more specific look.
Both are grown and prepared with the same care here at Aweside Farm.
We harvest our flowers by hand here on the farm, then carefully prepare and dry them using our solar-powered dehydrators.
Once dried, we sift and check our petals to remove unwanted plant material and help ensure a beautifully clean finished product.
It's a hands-on process, but we think the results are worth it.
Our culinary powders are dried herbs and botanicals that have been finely ground, making them easy to sprinkle, mix and experiment with.
They're designed to bring flavour to cooking, baking and drinks.
Each powder has its own flavour profile, so check the individual product descriptions for inspiration.

Growing & sustainability
Right here!
Everything in our own-grown dried edible flower, herb and powder ranges starts life on our 4.5-acre farm in Arlington, East Sussex.
We grow, harvest and process our ingredients here, giving us control over the journey from plant to finished product.
When we arrived in 2020, the land had previously been used for arable farming.
Since then, we've planted over 5500 trees, established hedgerows, created woodland, planted an orchard and introduced habitats to encourage biodiversity.
We're working to create a farm that produces beautiful food while supporting the living systems around it.
We really do! We're totally off-grid for our power here on the farm.
Our dehydrators run on 100% solar-generated electricity, allowing us to preserve our flowers and herbs using renewable energy produced here on the farm.
Absolutely - we'd love you to!
Our tins are designed to be useful long after you've finished the petals inside.
They're great for storing little bits and pieces, craft supplies or other dry items.
If reusing them for food, make sure they're thoroughly cleaned, completely dry and suitable for the intended contents.
